MADDALENA FORCELLA FOR MADDA STUDIO
Drawing upon founder Maddalena Forcella’s roots, Madda Studio elegantly melds her Italian design sensibility with traditional Mexican craftsmanship and materials to produce works of beauty and refinement. From sheep to spindle to showroom floor, the process of creation brings forth the innate beauty of handspun wool, natural dyes and innovative uses of traditional weaving and felting techniques. Each work is the unique combination of natural fibers, dyes, history, culture and design.
For the Canvas Series, Madda conjoins two distinct techniques: textiles and painting. in the first stage she employs pieces of felted wool and alpaca fleeces - unused fragments from the textile activity of her studio - which is sewed onto a canvas. Using nutshells, eucalyptus barks, and marigold flowers among others, the desired pigments and tinctures are extracted. With these natural dyes bonded with acrylic medium, she then incorporates them onto the canvas as the final step of the composition.
