Materia

Materia is a design studio based in the Hudson Valley region of New York that focuses on crafting furniture, lighting and objects which amplify the inherent beauty found in raw, elegant materials such as stone, brass, clafskin, parchment, steel, porcelain and wood.

Taking its name from the Latin word for matter, Materia strives to reduce each form in their collection to its essential structural elements while speaking directly to each object's composition.

Drawing from their combined backgrounds in choreography, fashion, landscape design and wood-working, founders Megan Sommerville and Matt Ensner have developed an intuitive and responsive visual language which is at once organic and refined.
