Jérôme Hirson

Jérôme Hirson

Become one with the material and relearn the slowness of gestures: after fifteen years spent working on an assembly line in the automotive industry, Jérôme found with sandstone something to give a new direction to his life as a worker.
Jérôme's attachment to popular art is expressed in the creation of everyday pottery: plates, bowls, pitchers, dishes. The simple, refined and minimalist character trait also emerges from the unique pieces: bricks, boxes, jars, vases...
The link that he establishes between this work of unique piece and the dishes, is the work. Without negative connotation, labor is for him linked to manufacturing, to the fact of creating. Hence the choice of modeling and working in the mass rather than turning to make his ceramics with archaic, almost archaeological forms. “Modeling allows me to obtain imperfections. An asymmetrical edge or an irregular curve give extra life to the piece,” explains Jérôme Hirson. He can thus feel the energy of the
earth, without dominating it.
