Isabel Moncada

Isabel Moncada

Isabel Moncada is a Mexican designer who specializes in the design of lighting fixtures made in her own workshop in Mexico. For more than 30 years she has explored and implemented ancient techniques of artisan manufacturing, developing different crafts, inventing mechanisms and transforming materials to improve the performance, quality and design of her pieces.

Isabel found her spirit in utilitarian art, she wanted her creative work to be functional. She considers the creative process to be a narrow and rigorous, requiring discipline and observation and yet you have to retaining a degree of rebelliousness, the ability to self-destruct and to be playful at the same time. And to find in this a real satisfaction.
She is inspired by the organic, the asymmetry, the amorphous volumes, the complexity, the subtleties. In her designs we can observe techniques such as lost-wax casting, blown glass, porcelain modeling and metal forging.
