For the past 28 years, Leslie Pontz work has been with fiber. She started to crochet 3-dimensional pieces around the turn of the century, and did not look back. Her love the simple process from which she can make very complicated works is what inspires her. The art has both a feminine and masculine character, emphasized by the use of the hard and soft material combinations. The work is all hand crocheted, one stitch at a time, using a variety of materials, such as monofilament, wire, silk, cotton, hemp. And these fiber forms are usually combined with other materials such as iron, wood, and plexiglass. It is a labor-intensive process, and each piece takes time.
