RaR FOR THOMAS EYCK
“blumenspiel”, designed by RaR, consists of five flowers, made in tin. The inspiration for this series of tin flowers comes from the oldest literary society in Europe, Jeux Floraux from France ( 1323). The winners of this poetry competition were awarded a gold or silver flower: a violet, wild rose, marigold, amaranth or lily.
RaR (Beate Reinheimer & Ulrike Rehm) translated five images by graphic designer Frits Kredel (1900) from “Das Kleine Blumenbuch” into three-dimensional work. The poppy, cornflower, Solomon's seal, March violet and coltsfoot are transformed into elongated and flat shapes and seem to defy the rules of gravity. The front and back are accurately detailed, as if they came from a herbarium. The side is no more than a thin line.
"blumenspiel" is produced by the renowned tin foundry De Tingieterij in Alphen, The Netherlands
