Glass Domes by Yoshihiko Takahashi

Born in Tokyo in 1958, Takahashi Yoshihiko studied glassmaking at Tama Art University. After graduation, he completed two years of training in Rheinbach, Germany, before establishing his own studio in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1985. Since then, he has presented his work mainly through solo and group exhibitions. Shortly after he decided to specialize in glass, Takahashi had the opportunity, to see European and American glass artists at work. Many were members of the first generation of the studio glass movement, through which artists unaffiliated with industrial glass companies began to treat glass as a means of individual expression. It was then that Takahashi realized that glass, like other media, the process by which glass fused at high temperatures takes on a three-dimensional form in the brief time before it cools and hardens - is far from a transitory action. It is a way of controlling a host of factors to give ideas form. Below are handblown glass domes from The Untochables Series available at GARDE:
